Most wedding gifts fall into one of two camps: the practical (cash, or something off the list) and the sentimental (a framed print, a piece of crystal). The best Irish wedding gifts manage both, and wool bedding is one of the few gifts that does.
A good wool duvet gets used every night for years. Made from Irish wool from farms we know by name, it also comes with a story the couple can trace right back to the field. Here’s why bedding makes such a good wedding gift, and how to choose the right one.
Why bedding makes a great wedding gift
- It gets used every day. Not once a year at Christmas dinner, but every single night.
- It lasts. Wool is resilient and naturally breathable. With regular airing, a wool duvet keeps going for years.
- It’s for both of them. A duvet or a set of pillows is one of the few gifts a couple genuinely shares.
- It’s something they wouldn’t buy themselves. Plenty of couples are still sleeping under a duvet one of them bought years before they met. A wedding is the perfect excuse for an upgrade.
Irish wedding gift ideas by budget

Up to €150: a pair of wool pillows
A pair of Irish wool pillows costs €120, one for each of them. If you don’t know how they sleep, Medium suits most people.

€150 to €250: a wool duvet
A wool duvet costs between €155 and €250, depending on size and tog. It’s the gift they’ll notice every single night. See the sizing tips below if you’re unsure which one to choose.

€180: a throw for the new home
A wool throw makes a lovely “something for the new home” gift. Woven in Donegal from Irish farm wool, it comes in Classic Cream, Sea Green, Greystone, and Greystone with Cream Stripes.

A bigger gift: the Sweet Dreams Set
The Sweet Dreams Set combines a wool duvet with wool pillows, so the couple’s bed is sorted in one go.

For every season: the Year Round Sleep Set
The Year Round Sleep Set includes a summer duvet and a winter duvet, so they’re sorted whatever the weather. A great gift for the whole family to chip in on.

The whole bed: the Full Flock Collection
The Full Flock Collection includes a duvet, a mattress topper and pillows. The whole bed, in Irish wool.
Choosing the right size and tog
If you can, find out the size of their bed. Our wool duvets come in four sizes:
| Size |
Dimensions |
| Single |
135 x 200 cm |
| Double |
200 x 200 cm |
| King |
230 x 220 cm |
| Superking |
260 x 220 cm |
Some couples like a duvet one size bigger than the bed, so there’s no tug-of-war in the middle of the night.
Tog is how warm the duvet is. Summer duvets are 4.5 to 7.5 tog, all-season duvets 7.5 to 10.5 tog, and winter duvets 10.5 to 13.5 tog. If you’re not sure, choose all-season. Because wool regulates temperature naturally, an all-season wool duvet suits most couples most of the year.
A group gift from the family

If the whole family or a group of friends is chipping in, a Dooley’s Wool gift card is the easiest way to give something substantial:
- Values up to €450
- Arrives by email within minutes, ready to forward or print and tuck into the wedding card
- Add a personal message from everyone
- Never expires, so they can wait until they’ve moved into the new house
A wedding gift with a story

Every Dooley’s product carries a QR code linking to the farmer whose wool is inside. Our own farm, at the foot of the Slieve Bloom Mountains in Co. Offaly, is in its eighth generation.
For a couple getting married abroad, or an Irish couple setting up home far from it, that makes wool bedding one of the most meaningful Irish wedding gifts you can give: something from a real Irish farm that they’ll use every day. Read our story.
Saving wool for later?
Wool is the traditional gift for a seventh wedding anniversary. If you’d rather save the bedding for later, have a look at our wool anniversary gift ideas. And for Christmas and birthdays, see our guide to Irish gifts for her and him.
Frequently asked questions
Can I send a gift card straight to the couple?
Yes. Enter their email address at checkout and the gift card arrives within minutes, with your personal message. You can also send it to yourself to print and put in the wedding card.
Can you ship wedding gifts abroad?
Yes. We ship within Ireland and to selected international destinations. You’ll see the shipping options and costs at checkout.
